My Home Library
Everyone needs a Home Library. It doesn't have to be huge, and it doesn't have to be full of shiny new books, but everyone needs to be able to own a few of their favourite books, the ones we want to read over and over again.
When Anne Fine became Children's Laureate, she set up My Home Library, to make it easier for everyone to have their own Home Library. She invited your favourite illustrators to help her, by drawing special bookplates for you to print off and paste into the front of your books, to tell everyone that this book is part of your Home Library.
That was ten years ago! For ten years thousands of you have been downloading bookplates, and telling us about your home libraries. We've been adding new bookplates, too...
Now we are celebrating our tenth birthday with a new look for the site, and with a new design competition for the budding artists among you to design their own bookplate!
Anne has teamed up with Wood of Words, the new reading and creative writing family website behind the competition, and will head the judging panel alongside leading children's book editor David Fickling, famed for his work with Jacqueline Wilson and Nick Sharratt, and Chris Riddell, cartoonist at The Independent whose work as an illustrator has earned him the Kate Greenaway medal twice.
Throughout the competition, ten leading illustrators will be releasing their own exclusive 'Wood of Words' themed bookplates. Here's just a taste of the lovely new plates on offer:
The competition runs until the New Year, so you still have time to enter - read all about it here - and see more 'Wood of Words' themed bookplates, too!
We know that what you really enjoy about this site is the bookplates - so we've had a grand spring clean to make it easier for you to make the most of them. Have a good look round! There are bookplates in all shapes and sizes. There's a little bit about what bookplates are, and where they come from. There's a page for the questions you ask us. And if you can't find what you're looking for, there's a new Site Map which lists everything on the site, which should help you to find it!
